In the 1960s Boeing offered a modified version of their then famous Boeing 707-320 jetliner to the United States Air Force to perform the role of a long range maximum endurance airborne warning and command center. This role was being performed by aging prop driven planes like the Lockheed C-121 Constellation and the Boeing 707 was deemed the suitable replacement to fill this important strategic role for the US military, as explained in this promotional film that dates from the mid 1960s.
