Royal Air Force Vickers VC-10 Vancouver Visit 2011 HD

Details

In early March of 2011, Royal Air Force Vickers VC-10 C.1K XV104 and her crew made a very much welcomed visit to Vancouver, BC, Canada2011 in order for some maintenance to be performed. The aircraft was operating a crew rotation flight between RAF Brize Norton and Calgary, and some sort of engine problem developed while in Calgary. It was deemed too difficult to perform the extended maintenance work in elements outdoors harsh winter conditions in Calgary, so it was decided to ferry the aircraft to the warmer climate of Vancouver, where it would be much easier for the crew to conduct the necessary repairs on the vintage jetliner.

While in Vancouver for her short visit, the crew had to replace certain engine parts and perform a series of high power engine runs to insure the aircraft and her engine systems were sufficiently repaired for the trans-Atlantic journey back to the UK. Given the type’s extreme rarity, Vancouver-based videographer Henry Tenby (JetFlix TV founder) was able to do extensive filming of the repairs being conducted on the Royal Air Force Vickers VC-10, including numerous engine starts, run ups, max power engine runs< as well as extended taxi footage, and of course the final departure of the RAF VC-10 back home to Brize Norton on March 3.
