Antonov An-22 Flying Baritone Amsterdam Late 1990s

Details

In the late 1990s, Amsterdam Schiphol airport was blessed with three special visits by Antonov An-22 cargo aircraft and local plane spotter and videographer Chris Mak was on hand to film the proceedings in this one hour video. We enjoy all three of these An-22 visits to Amsterdam in this video. The An-22 first flew and was presented to the public at the Paris airshow in 1965. A total of 68 An-22s were manufactured between 1965 and 1976, and as of 2024, there are only three active An-22s remaining in service and these are with the Russian Arm Forces within Russia, so chances to see them are almost nonexistent in present day. The An-22 holds the distinction of being the world’s largest turbo-prop aircraft ever built and it was also the world’s first widebody turbo prop ever built.
