MATS C-121A N494TW visited Coventry airport during the summer of 1998 whilst this amazing propliner was on a very historic tour of Europe, attending many air shows that summer. Throughout the tour, which began at Woodford UK on June 3, the Connie was commanded by the legendary Captain Frank Lang, who was accompanied on the flight deck at differing times by first officers Vern Raburn (the aircraft’s owner), Clint Fraser and Northwest 747 pilot Greg Arnold, and flight engineers Bob Leisten and J.R. Kern (also Director of Maintenance). Among the other airfields visited in the UK were Cranfield, Biggin Hill, Hurn, Duxford, Fairford, Farnborough, Middle Wallop, Exeter and Jersey. This aircraft made her final visit to Coventry on September 14 1998, leaving a day later, thereby ending Coventry’s long association with the type. The tour ended later in September when the aircraft departed from Shannon for the ocean crossing home to Avra Valley, where she arrived on October 5. This amazing video was filmed by Chris Mak and the show streams exclusively here at JetFlix TV.
